Weston Under-14s ran out 52-7 winners against Clevedon.

WESTON Under-14s enjoyed an emphatic 52-7 victory over Clevedon.

Clevedon scored a converted try within the first five minutes of the game, but Weston responded with three first-half tries all of which were converted. Two of which were scored by Lewis Paterson and the third by Kyron Pearce.

The second half started with Clevedon getting over the try line, but they dropped the ball. Weston’s next try came from Lewis Paterson, soon followed by another, while Toby Maleham was next on the score sheet.

Dom Marshall was stopped just short of the line, but Kyron Pearce was on his shoulder to finish off a good move, converted by Paterson. Weston’s final try was courtesy of Pearce picking the ball up from the kick-off and scoring under the posts, Paterson kicking the extras.

The forwards battled well with Andy Turner and Brooklyn Chamberlain carrying the ball well, while Maleham was a force to be reckoned with at the breakdown.

The game saw the return of Tom Flavin to the team, who had a fine game. Man of the match went to Kyron Pearce.

The Under-11s played host to Clevedon, which saw the visitors go away with a 6-5 win.

The first-half saw a strong performance from the visiting team with them taking a 3-0 lead. Weston’s response to this was superb, with tries from Jacob, Luke and Curtis on his debut.

Weston’s support play continued to improve with solid tackling from the whole team, in particular Louis, Ryan and Charlie. Weston scored a further two tries (Luke and Ben). Cameron was unlucky not to add a further try, stopped a yard short.

Man of the match was Curtis Ham.

The Under-7s played host to Clevedon and produced further improvements from their initial games.

Tristan Kitson was outstanding again, showing his blistering pace, while Thomas Shirlow and Joe Rossiter continued to pair up well in defence and secured lots of tags. Dillan Drinkwater took control in the centre of the field and Ed Hodge played with confidence.

Player of the match went to Megan Craddy, who showed vast improvement from previous games. It was a draw in result, but some fine quality rugby was the overall winner.

In the first match for many of the Under-6 players, a lot of things were learnt and enjoyment was had by all.

Some impressive tries were scored and an improvement in passing and catching was great to see. A special mention for Harry, who won man of the match and James, who won the same award for the second game.

HORNETS Under-15s defeated Clifton for the first time for several seasons.

The visitors were extremely quick out the blocks, spinning the ball wide to their winger who ran half the length of the pitch to score. But against the run of play, Hornets stole the ball at a breakdown, moved it quickly for Quentin Querl to run 50 metres to score under the posts. The conversion was added by Bradley Lucas.

This sparked the home side into life and Will Bailey extended the lead crashing over from close range. Querl quickly followed this up with his second with Lucas adding the extras, before Clifton scored their second try on the stroke of half-time to cut the lead to 19-10.

Hornets started the second half well, pushing Clifton back with some more structured defending. Luke Collins took full advantage of this by intercepting a pass to touch down under the posts. Charlie Fairhurst kicked the extras.

Now trailing by 16 points, Clifton started to fight back, scoring two tries, one converted try to reduce the deficit to just four points. In the dying minutes, Collins broke several tackles in midfield before passing to the supporting Querl to touch down in the corner to claim his hat-trick.

The final score of an excellent game was a deserved 31-22 win for Hornets.
