BADMINTON - THE junior section of Uphill Badminton Club held their keenly contested end of season tournament with over 90 children from five to 17 years taking part.

THE junior section of Uphill Badminton Club held their keenly contested end of season tournament with over 90 children from five to 17 years taking part. The presentations were conducted by Caroline Poole, with help from Grant Kelly, who was last year's junior sports person of the year, and presented by Dave Bickell from the Weston Mercury on behalf of the Howard Group. The Howard Group make this end of season celebration possible by their sponsorship, which provides the trophies that give the children a pride in their achievements and considerable encouragement for the future. The club's junior section is one of the largest in the South West, with 97 children coached during the season. This season, Kate Robinson, Caroline Higgins and Emily Walker have represented the club in the Avon County Junior teams or squads and two-thirds of the senior club's league players have come through the junior section. The Poole Cup for the Sports Person of the Year: Tom Higgins.At the end of the presentation, thanks were given to Mary Palmer, Lynn Pope, Mark Edwards, Paul Edwards, Tom Higgins, Robin Curry and Grant Kelly in recognition of all their coaching throughout the season. The children and parents presented Caroline and John Poole with flowers and gifts, for all their hard work and help throughout the season.
