Esme Gullick enjoyed a trip to Loughborough College, where she rubbed shoulders with Olympic and world champions.

AFTER weeks dedicated to GCSE revision, Weston Swimming Club female captain Esme Gullick enjoyed a trip to Loughborough University.

Esme, who is now able to train full-time for the four events that she has qualified for at this year’s National Youth Championships, spent four days at the prestigious university.

Head coach Ian Armiger welcomed Esme into the programme which saw her training alongside world championships qualifiers Lizzie Simmonds, Fran Halsall and current world record holders Jo Jackson and Liam Tancock.

A guest to the Loughborough programme during Esme’s stay was double Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington. The squad were in hard training before heading off to a holding camp in Japan, before competing in Shanghai.

After an extended training break due to injury, Esme relished this opportunity to kick start her return to training. She said: “The sets were really hard but worth the experience and gave me an insight into what it is like to be a top athlete.”

Now back training at Weston, Esme is even more motivated to do well at this year’s nationals and give herself the best possibility to return to Loughborough as a student. Weston Swimming Club would like to thank Hutton Moor for the support they have given to Esme during the run up to the National Championships in Sheffield later this month.
