Lympsham stay top of the league after their unbeaten start to the season.

LYMPSHAM 1st XI travelled to Coombe Dingle in Bristol to play Bristol University Staff and skipper Jamie Howson won the toss and invited the opposition to bat.

Opening bowlers Simon Pilgrim and Brendon Summers were soon on top and despite Oram holding up an end for the Staff, wickets started to fall at regular intervals.

The introduction of Jack Luff compounded the hosts problems, and despite Oram reaching a half century, the home side struggled to a disappointing 139-9 in their 45 overs.

In reply, the visitors had an instant setback with opener Rich Ford being dismissed by the second ball of the innings. This brought skipper Howson to the crease to join Dave Luff.

With the score standing at 66-1 in the 16th over, things looked comfortable, but Howson was dismissed just short of his half century, soon followed by Jason Parsons and Hayden Tuttiett.

Rich Coles joined Luff and hit a quick 11, but when he was dismissed the total looked a long way off. Luff was now joined at the crease by son Jack, and this pair guided their side to victory with eight overs to spare.

This victory keeps Lympsham unbeaten and at the top of the table, but they will be tested next week at home by third placed Long Ashton.

The Lympsham Concrete man of the match award was shared by Dave and Jack Luff.

? Lympsham 2nd XI hosted Frenchay, and skipper Rod Simpson lost the toss and the visitors batted first.

Opening bowlers Simon Cowgill (3-63) and Liam Morris (1-25) failed to find the early breakthrough, and the visitors were soon on top.

First change bowlers Window Merchants man of the match Andy Russ (3-58) and James Hall (2-32) had greater success, but despite losing wickets the visitors kept the scoring rate high, and with Ferguson finishing the innings with a flourish, hitting six sixes, the visitors posted an 234-9 in their 45 overs.

In reply, the hosts made a steady start, with openers Rich Drew (12) and Rod Simpson (32) determined to give their side a platform.

When Drew was dismissed the skipper was joined by Mike Hockin (28), but when they were dismissed in quick succession the innings collapsed, with only Ben Laing (20) showing any resistance, the hosts were dismissed for a disappointing 143 in 41 overs.
