Gordano 29 ptsNailsea & Backwell 5 ptsGORDANO recorded their fifth straight league win to leapfrog their near neighbours into third place in Somerset One.After conceding a well-worked overlap try in the sixth minute, the home team quickly imposed themselves on the Nailsea scrum and dominated the contact area as they had done at Taunton a fortnight earlier.Skipper Marcus Stratton led the way on 13 minutes, finishing off a spectacular move which had begun 70 metres downfield. Powerful running by the backs stretched the visitors' defence left and right and the second row was on hand to support a final, telling thrust from Aaron French and Dean Ashfield. Tim Coughlan converted.Just 15 minutes later French crossed the line, profiting from one of many scrum turnovers and a powerful drive from his forwards. Coughlan again added the extra points to make it 14-5.When Gordano forced a line-out just short of the visitors' line on 34 minutes, Gerry Creber pounced on an untidy tap down to claim the third try. Coughlan's conversion from wide out established a 21-5 lead.A courageous tackle by Jack Thomas prevented a Nailsea breakaway try on 65 minutes, the young winger being laid out for his pains and playing no further part. But that seemed to sting his side back into action and Mark Vowles crossed in the left corner five minutes later. Coughlan's conversion was just short but he made amends shortly afterwards with a penalty.
