KINGFISHERS winning streak continued as they celebrated their fifth successive victory.

Kingfishers 51 Yatton 1 28

KINGFISHERS winning streak continued as they celebrated their fifth successive victory.

Kings were looking forward to their rematch against Yatton as they narrowly lost to them in the first half of the season.

With a full squad, Kings made a controlled start. Attacking play was on form as usual, with the shooters rarely missing.

There were some good interceptions by Laura, Caroline and Nadina (player of the match) in mid-court, which interrupted Yatton’s flow and Kings developed a lead.

After some strategic changes at half-time, Kings had their best quarter. Yatton’s attack could not find any rhythm due to the excellent close marking of Kelly and Caroline and began to pull away.

Fitness levels were tested in the last quarter and some mistakes were evident, but overall another convincing team performance by Kings who went on to win 51-28.

Weston 2s 47 Bobbies Girls 42

WESTON 2s had a great start to 2011 with two wins in one week.

The first match of the New Year saw them play Bobbies Girls in the Weston League.

The game started out quite close, but by the end of the first quarter, Bobbies were pulling away, and by half-time were 10 goals ahead.

But Weston made some key changes to the line-up, and Weston were much more comfortable and started playing their own game.

By the end of the third, the teams were neck and neck, and in the last quarter, Weston stepped it up a gear, finally winning the match 47-42.

Player of the match went to Kelly Redman for her great play as GA.

Weston 2s 32 Harlequins 25

In the second match against Harlequins, Weston had another poor start. They were trailing by two at the end of the first and eight by the end of the second, but again, some changes in positioning helped the girls play their own game and the goals started building up with Weston taking the game 32-25.

Kemi Okunnu made a welcome return to the team and deservedly took player of the match for her fantastic defence in the circle.

Weston Netball Club is currently looking for new players. If you are interested in joining, just come along to Priory School, Worle, on Monday nights, 7-9pm, or by emailing rachelmason@hotmail.co.uk
