Weston have confirmed Lauren Filer will be given her debut at Midsomer Norton, emphasising the club's view of "giving opportunities" to all and everyone is "equal" says captain Chris Davidson.

Filer will become the second female of her family to play for the team, after sister Jodie made a couple of first-team appearances in the 2018 season.

The 20-year-old right-arm medium pace bowler has just finished playing for Welsh Fire in The Hundred, where she was part of the squad who took on London Spirit in their final game on Wednesday night.

Filer is also involved with both Western Storm and Somerset, where she was part of side that won Division Two of the Twenty20 Cup, two years ago.

"What Lauren has been doing over the last few years has been absolutely brilliant, we have always had a really good girls and youth section and plenty of representatives play for Somerset and she is the figurehead of that," said Davidson.

"Everybody at the club has been following her all the way through the journey and it's great. It's another example of the club giving opportunities, if you are good enough it doesn't matter how old you are, whether you play men's or women's cricket, everyone is equal and we just want the best players to represent the club and give people chances to improve."

Weston have named seven teenagers for Saturday's match with Midsomer Norton with four changes from their 24-run win against Bishopston last Saturday.

Shabel and Tahmid Ahemd both return and there is also a place for Ryan Hearse while Andy Fear, Robert Turner, Tom Chambers and Matt Knight miss out.

"It's another good one with Midsomer Norton, if we win it that gives us a really good chance of finishing third in the league which just shows the progress we have made this year," Davidson added.

"We have lost our last three in really close games against Midsomer Norton, they are a team we get really on well with. It will be nice to get a win against them and finish the season positively.

"Bishopston was really a game we were pretty much neck-to-neck in the table and the last game we played against them went right down to the wire so it was an important game for us to win.

"It got us back to third in the table and because we secured safety it was the first opportunity for a couple of guys to go up the order or with the ball so we can get people prepared ready for next season and start giving opportunities.

"To win a game when depleted by Covid, particularly our bowling line-up, and Will Crane take three wickets and the way the top order started the match with a bit of positivity, was nice to see."
