WRAXALL Village Club held its first race for 2009 bred young birds. Liberated from Minstead, New Forest, at 7.30am into a light westerly wind and excellent conditions, the birds enjoyed their first-ever racing experience.

The winning bird went to Nailsea member Gary Summers covering the 61 miles in 1 hours, 26 minutes. On the same day members Gary Summers, Pete Atherton and Nick and Jackie Stone competed in the National Flying Club, old birds Saintes race, winning first, fourth and ninth in the South West Section. Gary's bird taking nine hours to complete the 405 mile flight.
