Hutton Under-18 Girls kept up their early season form with a fine away victory at Downend Flyers.

Hutton Juniors Under-18 Girls continued their early season form away at Downend Flyers, despite missing a number of players.

The girls started brightly and opened the scoring on five minutes when Phoebe Payton’s shot from the edge of the area deceived the home keeper. Minutes later the girls extended their lead when good work by Hannah Worley, Payton and Tia Craig set up Gabby Massey to score.

Hutton’s previously untried defensive line-up of Meg Lewis, Josie Cherson, Anya Lawrence and Courtney Raynard combined well to deny goal scoring opportunities, while Lauren Filer in the Hutton goal did well to dive at an onrushing Downend player’s feet.

The Hutton midfield of Cat Coates, Jodie Filer, Payton and Craig were controlling the midfield and a swift passing move caught out the hosts and Coates’ cross evaded everyone before Craig netted as Hutton led 3-0 at the break.

The second half was dominated by the Hutton girls with Downend a little dispirited, but they maintained a solid defensive line to catch Hutton offside.

The Downend keeper kept the score down with a number of good saves before another Craig cross found Coates, who tapped home from close range to score. Minutes later Robyn Perrett found the corner of the Downend net following a strong run.

Downend continued to attack whenever possible and a moment of indecision allowed an unchallenged shot on goal which gave Filer little chance to save as it flew into the Hutton net.

Hutton’s response was immediate and Perrett again found the net in identical fashion to her previous goal as Hutton ran out comfortable 6-1 winners.

McDonalds Weston player of the match was awarded to Courtney Raynard, with EMS supporter’s player being jointly awarded to Josie Cherson and Meg Lewis.
