Hutton Under-16 Girls kick started their season with a 7-0 victory at Bristol Ladies Union.
HUTTON Under-16 Girls kick started their season after three straight defeats with a fine 7-0 away victory against Bristol Ladies Union.
Hutton started the brightest and had three chances, but hurried shots were either dragged wide or lacked composure. BLU were a threat on the break, but strong defending from Hannah Capes kept the scores level.
Shortly afterwards Hutton broke the deadlock when Robyn Perrett broke through the BLU defensive line to calmly beat the keeper. Minutes later, Gabby Massey extended the lead with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
Quick interchanges from the midfield of Georgia Ferdinando and Jodie Filer were creating problems, as wingers Tia Craig and Meg Lewis provided a string of crosses and it wasn’t long before Filer pounced on a clearance to score Hutton’s third.
Hutton’s defensive unit of Eva Ferdinando, Anya Lawrence, Nicole Badman and Capes were having outstanding games and another quick passing move allowed Filer to give Hutton a 4-0 interval lead.
After the break, Rachael Curtis’ abrasive style broke up midfield possession for the hosts allowing Hutton to play a more expansive game and Craig’s and Massey’s tenacity enabled Massey to score from distance, before she completed her hat-trick with another well struck goal.
Hutton’s keeper Lauren Filer was kept in the game, fielding long balls and her distribution of the ball was a feature of the second half as Hutton continued to press forward.
A good period of passing allowed Hannah Worley a tap-in for Hutton’s seventh of the day before she was denied a second at the death by a smart save.
McDonald’s Weston player of the game was awarded to Jodie Filer, with Eva Ferdinando being awarded the EMS Mortgage Services supporter’s player of the game.
