Weston Football Club is to host a pre-season match between Bristol City and Cheltenham Town.

Weston Football Club is delighted to announce that the Woodspring Stadium will be hosting Bristol City v Cheltenham Town for a pre-season match.

This game has been dubbed the ‘Johnson Derby’ as Lee Johnson manages Bristol City while father, Gary Johnson, manages Cheltenham Town.

Each season the father and son’s respective sides play each other before the start of the regulation season, and it’s an honour to host this event at the Woodspring Stadium. Last season the game was played at Cheltenham Town’s home ground, Whaddon Road and the score was 0-3.

Weston club secretary Richard Sloane, said “When Bristol City approached us to host this full first team match, we were delighted. They see Weston as an ideal club to place their young players for development.

“We have excellent relations with both clubs and long may that continue. Last season we had a number of loan players from Bristol City, notably Ash Harper, Harvey Smith and Aden Baldwin.”

The game will be played on July 10, kick-off time will be 7.30pm and ticket prices will be announced as soon as possible.
