Kewstoke Lions ended their successful Division 2 season unbeaten.
Kewstoke Lions 3
Berrow Res 0
DIVISION 2 champions Kewstoke Lions concluded their campaign with a comfortable victory over second-placed Berrow.
The home side got off to the best possible start when Ryan Hawkins was put through and his delightful lob opened the scoring with less than a minute on the clock
Minutes later Kewstoke doubled their advantage when Hawkins latched onto McManus’ through ball and another assured finish made it two.
Berrow enjoyed plenty of possession, but the rearguard of N Blake, Hearne, Brueford and Bray were superb throughout, giving keeper Alex Blake a relatively quiet afternoon.
The second half saw Berrow unable to find a way through, while Kewstoke were more than happy to sit on their lead. McManus added a third midway through the half and further chances for Popperwell and Fieldhouse were created.
The victory also ensured Kewstoke are the only side in all six divisions not to have lost a league game all season and they look forward to next season.
Banwell Res 1
Weston Players 5
PLAYERS secured the Division 5 title in emphatic fashion with a superb performance against Banwell.
They had to do it the hard way though, finding themselves 1-0 down after half an hour after failing to deal with Banwell’s long ball.
Despite the setback, Players pressed on, Page, Smith, Ballantine and Owen all seeing chances squandered.
The second half was all one-way traffic as Players eased up through the gears. Ballantine levelled the scores, firing home Skinner’s cross before putting Players in the driving seat finishing a neat move by Smith, Page and Owen.
Earey and Jones at the back were strong, with Smith and Page in centre midfield pulling the strings. Players stretched their lead when Jim Owen scored from a free kick.
Will DeVanney scored direct from a corner and Ballantine rounded off the scoring to complete his hat-trick. Dan Owen in the Players goal made two excellent stops to keep Banwell out.
Man of the match was Ben Earey, who narrowly pipped his defensive partner Rob Jones to the accolade.
Wedmore Res 1
Worle Rangers 7
WORLE Rangers’ fine form continued with a comfortable win over Wedmore Reserves.
Stephens opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes and two powerful drives from Chatterley put Rangers three up at the break.
The second half was more of the same, with Stephens scoring a great second to make it 4-0. Brown made it five before Wedmore responded, but Taylor set up Wilde and Trewern lobbed the keeper from over 40 yards to make it 7-1.
The win secured a runners-up spot for Rangers. Skipper Wilson gave nothing away at the back and Bray won practically everything in midfield. Horsnell put in a fine performance, but Jamie Stephens won the Curry Garden man of the match.
