Sutton Utd 3 Weston-s-Mare 1JUST hours before kick-off, Sutton recruited on loan strikers Ross Gaynor from Millwall and Charlie Ide from Brentford and the pair repaid manager Ian Hazel by helping the team to record their second win of the season, with Gaynor scoring a hat-trick.Villain of the piece was Northampton referee Stuart Burt whose reaction in nearly every incident was to reach for his cards, which saw Marc McGregor get his marching orders on 34 minutes and four others receive cautions, with the official upsetting both teams.Fielding the same side that started against Thurrock, Weston took the lead on four minutes when McGregor beat three defenders on a run and into the penalty area and scored his first goal since returning to the club with a low shot past keeper Clint Davies. As the home side settled, Ide had a shot on target and Peter Fear had a header tipped over by Ryan Northmore for Sutton's first corner. Sutton had an effort disallowed for offside before Gaynor equalised on 23 minutes after Weston skipper Matt Rose unfortunately gave possession away deep in his own half.Again Sutton had an effort disallowed for a foul, before Gaynor put them in front on 30 minutes with a 25-yard volley from a cleverly-worked free kick by Peter Fear. Then came the McGregor incident when he strongly challenged a defender for possession. Contact between boot and ball before he tangled with the player was clearly heard in the stand, but Mr Burt immediately produced a second yellow card, followed by a red, and that was the end of Weston's evening.Gaynor completed his hat-trick on 54 minutes with a 20-yard effort after a speedy run down the right by Ryan Palmer.Weston brought on Craig Loxton for Sekani Simpson and Scott Walker for Rose, and although Northmore had to make a double save to deny Ide and Gaynor, the visitors came more into the game, with Marvin Brown forcing a couple of good saves from Davies and Gary Thorne was just over with a header.Weston were thrown a life-line on 83 minutes when Loxton was pulled back in the penalty area, but Walker hit a post from the spot and Gareth Hopkins blazed wide from the rebound.Near the end, Brown had an overhead kick clawed to safety by Davies and then the Weston striker fired narrowly wide.WESTON STATS Goals: Sutton, Gaynor (23, 30, 54).
