Weston Mendip lifted the Somerset Junior Women’s Cup after a 2-0 win over Frome Town at Wells.

Frome were on the front foot early on, but Weston defended well for the first 15 minutes and gradually took control of midfield thanks to Lucy Dinham and Sarah Adams.

Passing the ball better, they created several attacks and eventually broke the deadlock just before half time.

It ook a goal of true quality to open the scoring on 43 minutes as Emily Harrington controlled the ball 25 yards out and volleyed superbly over the keeper to find the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Mendip keeper Danielle Pearson had to stay alert in the second half, but Becki King made an impact and Katie Sharkey combined well with Tash Crew before Harrington sealed victory in the 70th minute with a shot into the top corner.

The last 20 minutes were all Frome as they tried desperately to get back into the game but the back four of Karmisha Wilson, Amy Clark, Jess Chappell and Sam Crew held firm.

Weston Mendip are currently recruiting for next season, in particular a goalkeeper. Pre-season starts in June details from Jack Edgar 07795 071721.
