Team Mendip Ladies defeated Frampton Rangers to reach the semi-finals of the Somerset County Cup.

Team Mendip Ladies took on high-flying Frampton Rangers, who currently top the Gloucester County League, in the quarter-final of the Somerset County Cup.

With a strong wind at their backs, Mendip gradually took control but faced a young, fit side that passed the ball well on the Astro @worle.

Both sides had opportunities to take the lead, but the half-time score of 0-0 reflected the good play from both sides.

Mendip were able to ring the changes off the bench and Ellie Roberts came on midway through the second half and broke the deadlock, a well-taken goal from an acute angle gave the Frampton keeper no chance.

Mendip sealed the game when Amy Clarke beat two Frampton defenders to the ball and finished coolly.

Frampton continued to push forward and only super save by Mendip keeper Amanda Hubbard in the dying minutes denied Frampton a goal.

Both teams deserve credit for a keenly-contested game and the PD&CL Building Services player of the game for her excellent defensive work went to Karmisha Wilson.

Mendip hope to cause an upset next week when they travel away to top of the league Wootton Bassett Town Ladies in another South West Women’s League game.
