CLEVEDON recorded their first win of the season in a hard fought match with Rugby Town at the Hand Stadium

Clevedon Town 3 Rugby Town 0CLEVEDON recorded their first win of the season in a hard fought match with Rugby Town at the Hand Stadium. Both sides went in search of an early goal with a Danny Haines effort being cleared off the line in the opening minute, and Rugby's Matt Gearing should have opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but Danny Greaves made a superb reaction save to deny the visiting striker. Haines was on hand to clear David Stone's goal-bound header off the line in the 23rd minute and 10 minutes later, Clevedon opened the scoring, when man of the match Haines picked the ball up in midfield and threaded a pass for Jack Pitcher to slot past visiting keeper Afandiyev Farhad for his first goal of the season. Five minutes later, a quick thinking Mitchell Page saw Farhad was well off his line and launched a shot from 45 yards, the ball sailed over the former Azerbaijan international Under-21 keeper to make it 2-0 and earn Page his second goal of season. In the dying minutes Haines hit the post with a thunderous right foot shot.In the second half Clevedon were content to defend and soak up the pressure by Rugby's forwards, both sides failed to create many clear-cut chances. Greaves made two great saves from attempts by visiting strikers David Stone and Jason Taylor. Manager Phil Bater made a double sub-stitution on the hour, with recent loan signing Sean Seavill and Matt Rawlins replacing Jack Pitcher and Tom Jacobs. Both linked up well in the 82nd minute, with Rawlins heading just over from Seavill's right-wing cross. However, substitute Leon Hapgood, who replaced Mitchell Page late in the second half, made his presence known in the 90th minute, when his jinking run into the penalty area resulted in a superbly taken goal to make it 3-0 to the Seasiders.
