Weston-super-Mare Football Club has today (Thursday) confirmed it is in talks with a number of players over new contracts for the 2017/2018 season.
While Chris Barker, Jacob Cane, Dayle Grubb, Gethyn Hill, Jamie Laird and Luke Purnell have already committed their future to the club, head coach Scott Bartlett says he is ‘delighted’ with how talks have gone with a number of other key members of the squad.
Negotiations have begun with captain Ashley Kington and striker Jake Reid and the club has confirmed their contracts should be signed this week.
Jake Lee and Jason Pope have already agreed new deals, and will remain with the club next season, Bartlett told the Mercury earlier today.
Lewis Powell and Jordan Williams have been allowed to look for other clubs to give them regular first team football.
Bartlett said: “This season we saw some real progression so naturally we want to try and keep the majority of the squad together.
“When I came here I promised to try and keep us at this level and then build something for next season, to do that you need continuity and I am delighted with the progress we have made this week.”
