After two years of close games, Weston Women and Purnell Ladies faced off again for a friendly match at the Woodspring Stadium’s 3G pitch.

After only months ago in the league cup semi-final, the teams drawing 2-2 heading into extra time to a score line of 3-3, before competing in penalties, the Weston side expected a challenging match as always.

But this time both teams stepped up to a one-sided game, where Weston dominated and took a big lead in the first half holding the game at 7-0. With Purnells fighting and never giving up, the Weston side just would not let them break through.

After a solid first half, the team were told to use the second half as a training game to work on passing combinations and get use to the new players who have joined the squad.

The team is looking confident as they get ready to face the new challenges ahead of another promotion, into the South West Women’s League and also now heading into the FA Cup starting with a tough game away to Torquay United on September 2.

Manager Stacie Morrissey said: “I am overwhelmed with the way the team has continued to grow and progress, we are looking forward to another exciting challenging season ahead.”
