Worle enjoyed victory over Ashton & Backwell in an all-action cracker of a game at The Rec.

Ashton & Backwell 3

This game had it all and was a Christmas cracker – eight goals, a penalty, sending off and a crowd in excess of 100, including four who travelled from London to take in the game.

Worle started brightly with Downs and Adams continuing their good form and causing the Ashton back four continued pressure. The home side should have taken an early lead, only for the linesman to chalk it off.

Worle found themselves one goal down from the away side’s first attack, before another lapse at the back found Worle two goals down, despite having the majority of the game.

The hosts had another goal chalked off by the linesman, but they managed to get back into the game when their pressure paid off from a set piece and Nelson rose above the away defence to score.

The second soon followed when Downs fired into the corner of the net, but by this time Worle were reduced to 10 men when Hodrien picked up his second yellow.

The second half started in similar fashion with the home side dominating play, but within five minutes found themselves 3-2 down.

From this point there was only one winner with Worle creating numerous chances and Downs with his second putting the sides level. Within 10 minute, Jack Hodrien put Worle into the lead when Clements backheeled it straight into his path and he coolly lobbed the keeper.

The keeper then gave Worle some breathing space when he charged out and brought down Adams in the box and Clements netting the resulting penalty.
