Worle Reserves defeated Clapton-in-Gordano to move into the next round of the Atwell Shield.

Worle Res 3

Clapton-in-Gordano 2

Worle returned to action in the Atwell Shield against Clapton-in-Gordano and recorded a fine victory.

The home side dominated the early exchanges and possession and were unfortunate not to take the lead due to number of good saves and poor finishing from the front men.

Worle went into the break 1-0 down after an uncharacteristic mistake from Hicks gifted Clapton an easy goal.

The hosts did not panic and quickly drew level through a powerful header from skipper Mike Hansford.

Worle were in the ascendency and quickly took the lead again through Hansford following a smart through ball from Cahill. Clapton drew level against the run of play but it was only a matter of time before Worle won the game.

With 10 minutes remaining, Cyrus Molton worked himself into some space and smashed home a 25-yard screamer to seal the game for Worle.

This was an excellent team performance, but man of the match went to Mike Hansford.
