Winscombe Ladies Hockey Club made history with the formation of a 4th XI.
EXPANDING local hockey club, Winscombe ladies, has enjoyed an influx of new players thanks to the coverage of England hockey matches during the Olympics and more recently the Commonwealth Games.
New players, combined with the club’s own juniors progressing into the senior club, enabled Winscombe to make history at the weekend by fielding four teams in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League.
The 1st XI started the day with an impressive win against Taunton Vale, followed by the 3rd XI with a narrow victory against newly-relegated side Wootton Bassett.
The 2nd XI found their competition more challenging with a 10-0 defeat to Taunton Vale 3rds. The spotlight, however, fell on the newly formed 4th XI who, despite losing away to a strong Taunton Vale 5th team, all players left the pitch happy and encouraged, having put in a spirited performance on their league debut.
