WRAXALL Village Club birds were liberated from Saintes, France.

Facing a long fly in warm conditions, the birds faced a stern test with only four being timed in on the day. The winning bird went to Dundry member, Brian Isaac, taking 10 hours to complete the 402-mile flight.

The birds were liberated from Littlehampton for the final old bird race of the season. The birds romped home in excellent conditions, the leading bird going to Nailsea member Gary Summers, completing the 105-mile flight in two hours.

Results: G Summers 1524 yards per minute (52 mph); B Isaac 1504; G Summers 1502, 1495; S Allen 1493; P Atherton 1492.

Pride of place goes to club member Bill Stribling of Worle, racing in an international race from Barcelona. Bill's pigeon released from Barcelona with 28,000 birds from all over Europe at 9am on Friday was timed at 3pm on Saturday having flown 730 miles. This won Bill fourth position in the British section.
