UPHILL Badminton Club A team were in fine form following the Christmas break beating Fry's A, in the away fixture, by nine rubbers to nil.

The match started well for Uphill with Becky Matthews and Paul Edwards winning the first mixed 21-10, 21-10, and this was followed by captain Nicky Mills and Mark Edwards winning the second 21-13, 21-13. The third mixed was also won comfortably by Becky Halfpenny and Matt Cole, 21-17, 21-14.

In the first ladies' rubber, Becky Matthews and Nicky Mills were made to work hard against Louise Sobey and Viv Nash before winning the rubber 21-12, 21-23, 22-20.

In the second rubber Becky Matthews and Becky Halfpenny were also taken to three games before winning 21-14, 19-21, 21-15. In the last ladies' rubber Nicky Mills and Becky Halfpenny ran out easy winners 21-13, 21-15.

In the first men's rubber Paul and Mark Edwards beat Pete Trevitt and Steve Rugg in straight games 21-19, 21-17. In the second, Paul Edwards and Matt Cole were taken to three games before winning 21-11, 15-21, 21-12 against Pete Trevitt and Jeremy Pocock. The last rubber was won comfortably in straight games by Mark Edwards and Matt Cole 21-14, 21-12.

Uphill A are now at the halfway point of their League fixtures having played five, won five, got 40 rubbers and 50 points.
