Weston lose against title contenders Frocester, despite a century from captain Gary Morgan.

WESTON captain Gary Morgan led his team against title contenders Frocester, and having won the toss decided to bat first, a decision that nearly backfired when Simon Green, Sam Trego and Jackson Davey all found themselves back in the pavilion inside 12 overs.

Thankfully, Morgan steadied the ship, and Edd Brown coming in at five, set about rebuilding the innings.

Brown (39) opened up and matched the fluent Morgan (105) shot for shot, before he was stumped by Gegg off Taylor. Shabil Ahmed and Andy Fear also offered good support, sadly both succumbed to run outs, but not before Fear saw Morgan to only his second 1st XI century.

Morgan’s ton came off 125 balls, and included 10 fours and two sixes in a virtually flawless knock that made the Weston innings respectable. The innings closed with Weston nine down, but a distinctly defendable 246 on the board.

In reply, Sean Stringer (3-44) got Weston off to a dream start, removing Caddy, Gegg and Smith to leave Frocester reeling at 16-3 off five overs. However, Nick Trainor played a canny innings, avoiding facing Stringer as much as possible during Stringer’s first spell.

Taylor, his batting partner, supported well, and quickly found the boundary as the fielders’ heads dropped. Taylor was dismissed for 61, but Davis only picked up where Taylor had finished, while Trainor plied his trade at the other end, searching for his third century in as many weeks.

Davis departed for 42, and the result was no longer in question, as Trainor finished 114 not out, guiding Frocester to victory by five wickets and with five overs to spare.

The Intouch CRM man of the match went to Gary Morgan.
