Weston Swimming Club’s most decorated swimmer in recent times, has been selected to represent Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival.
Rachel Anderson, Weston’s most decorated swimmer in recent times, has been selected by the British Olympic Association to represent Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Gyor, Hungary.
She gained selection for the 16-strong Great Britain swimming team on account of finishing fastest in the 200m freestyle event of all 2002/2003 birth girls at the qualifying trials, the British Championships in Sheffield in April.
The eight-time national medallist, funded by Somerset charity TS5C, will swim four individual events at the games (200m free, 400m free, 800m free and 200m butterfly), alongside the 4x100m freestyle relay.
This is her first GB call up, having represented England on three previous occasions (including in March this year in Marseille).
The festival will see the British team of 50 compete alongside around 3,000 athletes from 50 European nations across 10 Olympic sports from July 23-29.
EYOFs play an important role in the development of young British athletes and help them along the route to achieving their own Olympic dreams, with more than 50 athletes graduating from a summer EYOF with Team GB going on to compete at the Beijing 2008, London 2012 or Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
