Due to injuries and absence, the team had a different line up from normal, with Tash Drake stepping into centre and Vicky Truman as GA. The lack of consistency meant it took a little while to settle into the game, but Weston managed a lead of five by the end of the first quarter.
By the second, the girls got into the flow of the match and started to pull away thanks to some fantastic feeding by Kemi Okunnu and Bonnie Beechgood and great circle play by Vicky and Mel Chilman.
Weston’s defence of Becky Lewington, Hellen Gilmore and player of the match Laura Stainer were strong as ever and fantastic interceptions and rebounds by all three kept Roman Glass scoring.
Coming into the second half, Weston were ahead by 13. Kadie Hodges came on and helped the girls continue to pull away, while the final quarter saw Hellen take a stint as centre. Despite a healthy lead, the team continued to work hard to secure a well deserved 59-37 victory.
