Forty-two gymnasts from Weston Aerobic Gymnastics Club came home with 67 medals, including 38 gold at the Welsh Championships.

WESTON Aerobic Gymnastics Club took a total of 42 gymnasts to the three day Welsh Championships and Cardiff RAC Championships at the Welsh National Institute of Sport and came home with a total of 67 medals, including 38 gold.

Head coach Debbie Saunders, was delighted with the high level of skills the gymnasts were performing, with many gymnasts achieving personal bests.

At the international level, Rhys Williams and Keira Landen built on their recent success at the world championships by winning the 12-14 mixed pairs with a clean routine and Rhys also winning silver in the male individual.

In the female individual 12-14, Amelia Barratt and Keira Landen performed clean routines to come fourth and seventh against 23 gymnasts. Emily Antoine and Beth Kemmish just missed out, coming a fourth in the pairs and joining team-mate Maddy Reynolds to come fifth in the trios.

Abi Butterfield completed a superb routine with clean technical skills getting the highest score of the club over the weekend, only 0.8 from a medal position, and getting the benchmark score for GB squad.

At national level, the medal ceremony was a sea of purple when all the gymnasts walked onto the floor.

Age 15-17 six team of Dani Lintern, Cara Short, Kat Forster, Olivia Barratt, Courtney Hewwett, Jade Hunt showed tremendous energy and dynamism to win the gold, with Kat, Jade and Olivia also getting the gold in the trios section.

Cara Short powered her way to silver in the open female individuals and also won the Welsh Closed Championships.

Senior gymnast Jade Hayes had a great competition, a personal best for her and a bronze medal.

In the 12-14 age group, Weston won the six team again, with Lily Jefferies, Lucy Clarke, Lucy Williams, Grace Maggs, Cally Bullock and Izzy Worral. All the gymnasts in this team also competed as trios or pairs, again winning more medals, Lucy Williams and Grace Maggs getting silver in the pairs with an energetic routine.

Lucy Clarke, Cally Bullock and Izzy Worral competed for the first time as a trio getting another silver medal for the club, with team-mates Lara Hunt, Katy Day and Katy Tossell winning the bronze.

The youngest age group at this level was the 10-11 year old gymnasts and Isi Vucicevi continued her unbeaten run in the female individuals with a superb routine. Isi joined team-mates Taylor Drewer and Victoria Kemmish to win the bronze medal in the trios.

At RAC level, the club took several new gymnasts to gain experience, so were pleased when all the newcomers won their categories, and all the gymnasts at this level won medals.

At age group 12-14 Emma Heaney won the female individuals in fine style in this her first competition, and Ben Payne won the male individuals at his first attempt. Ben then went on to join partner Charlotte Painter to win the pairs, ahead of team-mates Amy Bond and Jenny Cao, who had to be content with silver.

Jenny and Amy joined Ffion Dando, Harmony Potter, Bayleigh Whitehead and Lauryn Grainger to win the six team event, with Lauryn and Bayleigh joining Katy Edwards to win the trios.

The 10-11 year olds also won every category entered. Rachel Anderson was in top position for the female individuals with Ellie Hayes coming in second place. Ellie competed in the trios with Millie Meese and Lauren Tossell to win yet another gold medal for the club.

Weston only had a pair in the age nine year section, Ellie Mae Paige and Ellie Hutchinson, who scored a personal best with a neat routine to win the gold medal.

Eight-year-old Gemma Handley was the club’s youngest gymnast competing, but performed a confident routine to earn silver.
