Captain’s day at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club raised more than £8,000 for the Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance.
Burnham & Berrow Golf Club captain David Huxtable praised everyone involved in raising more than £8,000 at the hugely captain’s charity day.
The captain’s chosen charity this year is the Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance which relies entirely on charitable donations to operate.
The popular event was once again well attended with 138 competitors turning out to support the event over the championship links which was highly praised by all the competitors for its outstanding condition.
A team from Beau Desert Golf Club in Staffordshire consisting of Nigel Powell and his two sons Christopher and Lewis won the event with 80 points, but only after a countback after a three-way tie with two other teams, one from Stratford-upon-Avon and another from Teignmouth, who also scored 80 points.
It turned out to be a family affair in the August medal with father and son Troy and Will Crandon topping the Division 1 leader board with nett scores of 67. Despite shooting the best gross score of the day with a 70 Will Crandon dipped out of the top spot to his six handicapper father Troy on a countback.
Captain-elect Pete Amos finished third with 70. Another family first and second place almost occurred in Division 2 as well, with brothers Kevin and Mike Dodd finishing second and third respectively after Steve Seymour topped the division with 68.
Annette Poynton also won by virtue of a countback over Tricia Folland to finish top of the leaderboard in the ladies’ Stableford. Two points ahead of a chasing pack of three other players on 34.
