Ten under par and a hole-in-one for champion Will

Mendip Spring golfer Will Poole became Somerset champion during the South Western Counties Golf Association Championships held at Weston Golf Club.
Two rounds of 65 for a total of 130, 10 under par, including a hole-in-one, saw Mendip Spring golfer Will Poole crowned the individual champion at the South Western Counties Golf Association Championships at Weston Golf Club.
Poole has been a member at Mendip Spring since he starting playing aged eight and is enjoying a successful season. He won the South East Links Championship at Royal Cinque Ports/Royal St Georges earlier in the year.
He was third in the West of England Amateur at Saunton and won the Burnham Salver earlier this month. The 23-year-old has a handicap of -3 and has just played in the British Amateur Championship at Royal St Georges and Prince’s.
Burnham & Berrow Golf Club members Sam Fernley and Phil White enjoyed a good week, both scoring 6.5 points for Somerset.
Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire all took part in the SWCGA Championship which were held over five days at the Weston links course.
Somerset won the team event and the best six players from each county competing for the team prize and a place in the English county finals over three days from September 29 at Trevose near Padstow.
