Even after they turned round to defend the slope, they refused to fold under a barrage of short-yardage rugby by the home pack. With Ben Harvey and skipper Ben Gilmore leading the way up front, Gordano used the possession that came their way to pierce the gain line and exploit the wider spaces. This tactic eventually paid dividends with tries by Jack Thomas and Jarvis Walters, both converted by Coughlan. Old Reds' efforts were eventually rewarded with a try two minutes from time.
