WESTON Aerobic Gymnastics Club members warmed up for Welsh Championships with an inter-club competition.

WESTON Aerobic Gymnastics Club held its pre National Championship inter-club competition with Welsh club Martine’s Action Pack last Saturday, with a panel of national and international judges.

All the clubs gymnasts produced good routines with some of the regional gymnasts competing for the first time and showing great promise for the future.

At RAC level, Rachel Anderson won the foundation (age nine) section and in the age 10-11 group, the gold medal was won by Taylor Drewer, with Bayley Whitehead and Ffion Dando in silver.

The 12-14 age group was won by Courtney Hewwett, with second going to Lauryn Granger, and Lauryn Granger and Katie Edwards in third.

At national level, some of the gymnasts had to work hard to get the medals, in the age group 10-11, Katy Day, Kay Tossel and Lara Hunt sparkled through for the gold, with a hugely improved Victoria Kemmish in silver, and in third Isidora Vucicevic.

Group 1 (age 12-14) was won by Dani Lintern, who has worked hard on her performance skills to improve her scores, in silver position. Maddy Reynolds and Lily Jeffery, and the six-team of Lucy Williams, Lucy Clarke, Izzy Worral, Katy Tossel, Cally Bullock and Grace Maggs were pleased with their improvement and the bronze medal.

The age group above (15-17), was another hard fought battle, with Emma Deakins making a welcome return to the sport and getting the gold medal with a clean routine, Kirsty Harvey again stepped up to the mark and won the silver, with Cara Short delivering a powerful routine to get the bronze

The international gymnasts have been working hard since their trip to Slovakia, and it certainly showed. Rhys Williams and Keira Landen easily won the gold in their section, with the 12-14 section Georgina Hannam and Jaime Ward getting the top score for the club and silver medal, with Flora Lacy winning the silver medal in the senior section.

All the gymnasts then received feedback from the judges on how to improve their routines for the Welsh Championships, and were praised for their hard work and great attitude, and the coaches were congratulated publicly by national coach and TC member Martine Griffiths.

The annual event is a valuable dress rehearsal for the Welsh Championships and any routine or other issues will now be ironed out.

Meanwhile, British squad members Matt Saunders and Abi Butterfield are travelling to France with 37 other gymnasts to represent Great Britain at the prestigious French Open.
