Sidmouth & Ottery Ladies 0

WINSCOMBE ladies kept up their good form with another comfortable victory, this time over Sidmouth & Ottery.

Winscombe had began hard and fast and it wasn’t long until Hannah Taylor scored the first goal in after a great attack from the back involving Leanne Gardner, Chloe Brown and Sarah Holland.

Taylor’s second quickly followed with a carefully placed shot into the back of the net.

Katie Walker in goal and defenders Julie O’Sullivan, Michelle Isgar and Caitlin Flood worked relentlessly to maintain a clean sheet for Winscombe.

Brown increased the score just before half-time with a cleverly slotted shot, making the score an impressive 3-0 at half-time.

Formidable work rate was seen from all, especially down the left side from Charlie Phillips, Elly Yard, Izzy Savage and Kelly Clark, who skilfully fed Richardson, whose shot was deflected, but saved recklessly by Sidmouth’s defence resulting in Winscombe being awarded a penalty flick, which Taylor calmly put this away for her hat-trick.

Savage finished the scoring with a spectacular shot, which rocketed into the roof of the goal to take Winscombe up to second place in the league table.

The John Hodge Solicitors player of the match was Izzy Savage.

Midway through the first-half, midfielder Ella Horwood linked well with Amy Knapman and Cat Evans to break through the Taunton Vale defence for Evans to open the scoring.

The second half began in much the same way as the first. Despite some superb defensive tackles from Rachel Wallace and a spectacular save on the goal line by Heather Hockey, Taunton managed to equalise.

Imogen Marsh, Emma Caney and Georgie Savage battled hard, whilst at the other end, Winscombe keeper Vicky Whittaker was forced to make a series of impressive saves.

In the final minutes of the game, Taunton were awarded a series of short corners, which were well blocked by captain Jodie Honour.

The Quilter Cheviot player of the match was Ella Horwood.
