Weston 5 Bridgwater 2AFTER a promising end to the first part of the season, Weston played hosts to local rivals Bridgwater in a warm-up match before the resumption of the league season. Confidence was high and despite missing a number of key players, Weston won an entertaining open match at Priory School. Bridgwater started strongly and put Weston under pressure for the first 10 minutes, but they slowly got into the game and created openings. Captain Long scored from one of the five short corners in the first half and shortly after, Hart scored a well worked team goal which involved Price and Brees. Straight from the half-time whistle Hart scored again and Weston were cruising. A number of other chances were missed and Bridgwater came back into the match, as they scored from a short corner and then caused goalkeeper Beer to make a number of fine saves. Bridgwater's pressure eventually led to a second goal, which was well finished.Weston regained their shape with Long and Hawkes controlling the midfield. Dennis on the right linked well with Price and this combination set up a goal for man of the match Hawkes to steady nerves with a cool finish. With five minutes left Chambers scored from another short corner to cap the Anchor award which was closely fought with Long and McConkey.
