Weston Under-13s Wizards ease into the plate semi-finals after beating Banwell and Churchill.

WESTON Under-13 Wizards travelled to Banwell and Churchill for the plate quarter-final.

Weston’s bowling attack started with captain Harry Wiseman and keeper Alex Harper to test their defence. Wickets fell regularly to the leg spin of Ben Evans, who took a hat-trick.

Nine Weston players were given a chance to bowl, with Jon Morgan also close to a hat-trick. Tom Chambers picked up the final wicket as Banwell were 55 all out.

Weston decided to reverse the batting order, so Felix Grandfield (8) and Areeb Hussain (0) opened the batting. They lost Tom Ferns, but Tom Greed (17 not out) and Scott Bradley (20 not out) saw the game out with some fine shots in the 10th over.

The Under-11 Wizards played Nailsea at home on Sunday. Nailsea batted first and came up against the pace of Tom Chambers and Jack Press who both kept the runs down, and with Tom picking up an early wicket.

Aniraj Sapra picked up two more wickets in a fine spell, Dan Press one and along with Jake Middleton and Joel Crinson, who both bowled a great line and length, kept Nailsea’s score down to 43-4.

Weston’s openers Dan Press and Alex Leeks started well and with fine support Pete Karageorgopoulc, Lewis Cregan and Joe Beddington chased down the total. Tom Chambers added a fine 21 including four fours, Aniraj added another 12, ending in a win for the Wizards.

UPHILL Castle Under-11s travelled to Blagdon and pulled off an impressive 40 run win.

After losing the toss, Blagdon asked an inexperienced Uphill to field. Blagdon startred well, putting on 31 without loss. Captain Archit Singal stemmed the flow of runs and ended with exceptional figures of three overs, three maidens and four wickets including a hat-trick.

He was supported by Matt Davis who finished with figures of 2-0-2-4, backed up by Kruz Belcher (3-0-9-2). Sonny Carr was the other wicket taker as Blagdon finished on 214-11 (Barrington rules).

Uphill openers Kruz Belcher (16 not out) and debutant Charlie Harding 3 (net -3) shared a tremendous opening partnership of 23 (net 17), with only a run-out blemishing their start.

Specsavers man of the match Davis scored an impressive 12 not out, supported by Connor McDowell (7 not out) as they continued to accelerate the score. The third pair of Oliver Stokes (5 not out) and Sonny Carr (6 not out) kept Uphill in a commanding position at 263 (Net 257) off 12 overs.

Blagdon pulled the game back as Palmer bowled two maidens, and a couple of run outs between Joe Statham (0 not out) and debutant Charlie Biggs (0 net -12) made it a nervous finish for Uphill.

However, Archit Singal (2 not out) decided not to concede his wicket and supported debutant Tom Biggs (1 net -5) to leave Uphill the victors on 254-4.
