WESTON Academy of Martial Arts and Warrior Gym hosted the first in a series of open tournaments at Hutton Moor Sports Centre called the WAMA open grand prix.

WESTON Academy of Martial Arts and Warrior Gym hosted the first in a series of open tournaments at Hutton Moor Sports Centre called the WAMA open grand prix. Martial art clubs from all styles and from all over the country came to the event and there were over 60 sections from novice to advanced. Teams and competitors from Wales, Trowbridge, Gloucester, Wolverhampton, Birmingham and other places attended the event.Weston Warriors and Weston Karate Club had great success and came away with winners and runners-up in many different sections. There were also some fantastic demonstrations by the Urben Martial Arts Club and Joe Hallet's team. The freestyle forms which included musical forms and weapons were amazing to watch and was appreciated by the spectators.Juniors as young as five years took part and one of the best fights of the day was between William Maskell (Weston Warriors) and Ievan Taylor (Kkaw Devils) in the final of the pee wee points section. Both lads were under six years of age and showed great determination and skill to put on a great fight. Weston Junior Warriors' Lewis Mulhall, Tyler Davies, Carloline Petas, Gemma Baker, Brooklyn Chamberlaine, Mark Small, Luke Maskell, Haydon Ellis, Joel Crinson all recieved trophies. Weston Warriors adults also won five first and three second places in the sections.Weston Academy and Stuart Davies would like to thank all the clubs, officials and club members for helping make the event a great success.
