SOMERSET Dickies Rebels mascot, Henry Atkins, became the first-ever 125cc British Speedway champion, the championship meeting being staged at Eastbourne’s Arlington Stadium.
Atkins (10), is the current leader of the 125cc youth support class being run in conjunction with the season-long full 250cc and 500cc championships for the Under-16s, but Saturday’s event at Eastbourne was a one-off meeting to determine the destiny of the 125cc championship title.
The Exeter-based youngster did it in the best possible way, winning all of his qualifying rides to make it through to the winner takes all grand final, where he kept his winning ways to claim top spot on the podium and become the Somerset Rebels’ first-ever British national speedway champion.
