WESTON seconds continued their good form with a high-scoring victory at Ilminster.

After being asked to bat, Weston got off to a flying start as some wayward bowling enabled Sam Curley (23) and Tom Ford to reach 70 within the first 11 overs.

Curley’s dismissal bought Mitch Smit to the crease and there seemed little Ilminster could do to stem the flow of runs as Ford and Smit peppered the short boundary. Matt Kearsey (29) continued the onslaught after Ford had played on for 52 and brief respite was afforded after Smit was bowled six short of his century.

Paul Stringer finished with 41 not out and Simon Turner (8 not out), coupled with 64 extras meant Weston amassed a massive 311-4.

In reply, Ilminster got off to a steady start. In the face of some accurate bowling, Chris May played a lone hand in keeping his side in the game, eventually falling for a superb 102 to Tom Court (9-1-45-2).

Despite the best efforts of Ian Masters (42), the home side were always behind the run rate and wickets started to fall as the asking rate continued to climb.

Jalal Ahmed (9-1-46-1) bowled well with little reward as did Dale Chard (9-0-57-2) and Matt Kearsey (9-1-40-0). However, it was left to Stu Roberts to take the bowling plaudits as he wrapped up the tail with figures of 8.3-0-55-5.

InTouch CRM man of the match went to Mitch Smit.

Weston 3rds poor season continued as they were comprehensively outplayed by top of the table Wellington.

Batting first, Wellington amassed an excellent 257-3, with a fine century from G Davies (105 not out) proving the backbone of the innings with good support from A Latifi (61 not out).

Pick of the Weston bowlers was Ricky Bissex (12-1-57-1), while Matt Humphrey (11-0-58-0) bowled well without luck. Mention should also go to Tom Dancey for executing two fine run outs.

In reply, the Weston innings never really got going as only Mike Lee (18), Matt Blamire (18) and Humphrey (26) reached double figures, limping to a close on 126 all out.

Intouch CRM man of the match was Matt Humphrey.

Weston 4ths were also on the receiving end of a drubbing as they lost out at Taunton St Andrews.

Batting first, St Andrews were indebted to Nick Pringle (136) and Pete Sanderson (74) in their total of 284-9.

Fifteen-year-old Matt Knight was the pick of the Weston bowlers as he toiled for 4-55 from his 12 overs. Good support for Knight was provided by Rhys Crocker who continued his good season with 12-0-56-3.

Weston got off to a positive start in reply as Jon Mayo (28) and Jon Lawrence (24) gave Weston hope, however their dismissals started the collapse and with only Knight (12) and Crocker (14) reaching double figures.

Weston ended up well short of their target, bowled out for 111 with 11.3 overs remaining.

In touch CRM Man of the Match went to Matt Knight.
