Hornets Colts retain the Somerset Cup for the first time in their history.

IN a fitting climax to the season, the Somerset Cup final was played between Hornets, the winners of the Somerset Colts League and Yatton, the winners of the Bristol Combination League, with Hornets winning 43 -10 to retain the cup for the first time in their history.

The first score came after only seven minutes when the dominant Hornets scrum took a ball against the head which allowed Hornets No 8 Kade Dillon to force his way over by the posts leaving Reece Watson an easy kick for the extra points.

Hornets made it 12-0 when the forwards again showed their power by powering over the line from over 25 metres, with Chris Francis claiming the try. They scored their third try when Ben Cox powered in from 15 metres.

The final score of the half came right on time when a failed Hornets throw in resulted in a Yatton five metre scrum, which again Hornets took against the head, leaving Dillon to collect his second try, making the score 22-0.

Yatton showed there resilience by scoring six minutes into the second half. Their pressure led to a Hornets scrum on the five metre line and a mistake behind the goal line saw Yatton pull five points back.

Horrnets came back strongly and a minute later they put their only real backs move of the match together when Tom Bradley scored under the posts. Watson had an easy kick to make it 29-5.

With 20 minutes of the half gone, Yatton scored again when scrum-half George Osbourne did well to get scrappy scrum ball away and the Yatton winger raced in from 20 metres.

Hornets came back immediately when Dillon chased the kick off which led to a Yatton defender finding Watson with his kick. He then passed to Joe Gadd who made 20 metres before passing to the supporting Watson who went under the posts. The conversion from Watson made it 36-10.

With seven minutes to go, Hornets scored their final try when the ball was moved wide to the right for Jermaine Jones to score out wide. Watson capped a good display with a fine conversion to make the final score 43-10.

The AGM Services/Winsdor Castle Bar and Restaurant man of the match went to Kade Dillon.

Hornets would like to thank everyone who has supported them this season, all their sponsors and wish Yatton the best of luck in their Combination play-off final against Bath.
