Hornets Under-15 Girls produced an excellent performance to defeat a fancied touring side from Coventry.

Hornets Under-15 Girls 64 pts

Barkers’ Butts Girls 15 pts

Hornets Girls were again in fine form against a fancied touring team from Coventry, showing they are becoming a competent squad of young players.

The girls’ skill level, tackle technique and understanding of the game were on show in abundance and a very good side were comfortably put to the sword.

Right-wing Paige Hoddinott showed some electric pace for the opening try and settle some early nerves. Barkers’ showed they were up for the battle by striking back with an unconverted try by their classy No 8.

Unfortunately for the visitors, this galvanised the home side who proceeded to dominate possession for the remainder of the half.

Ella Hutchinson outstripped the defence from halfway for the first of her five tries before Sophie Adams touched down for a try converted by Ruby Richardson after a strong run by wing Heidi Swarbrick.

No 8 Millie Mann was next on the scoresheet, powering over from close range after Cass Hancock had gone close. Hutchinson added a quickfire double, one after some destructive Hornets tackling notably from Jess Delaney, Kerri Townsend and Ruby Pring led to a turnover that within seconds saw Lottie Dadds putting the full-back away.

The second was straight off the training ground from a scrum the midfield of Harrie Payne, Richardson and Hancock worked a fine move for Richardson to deliver the final pass to the flying full-back to score her hat-trick try.

By now Hornets had lost the impressive Liv Phillips to injury and Hattie Parkman had bravely taken up the unfamiliar role of tighthead prop.

After the break, Adams quickly added her second when she was first to react and gather a loose ball near the try line. Hutchinson added two more to her impressive tally when her pace was too much for the defence.

Adams completed her hat-trick after an outrageous solo effort converted by Townsend. Georgia Seviour finished off a fantastic team try that saw the ball carried well by Jade.

With the Barkers’ defence now looking tired, powerful centre Hancock was too strong to stop from 10 metres out for a try that completed the scoring.

Tianna Franks, Hazzard and Ellie Maher all enjoyed cracking games in the pack. Jas Buckthought continues to improve in the back row and after a lengthy lay-off, Hornets welcomed back Beth Webber.

Hornets’ back three players Hutchinson, Erin Edwards, Seviour, Hoddinott, Swarbrick and newcomer Amelya Hobbs look a handful for any defence.

Hornets’ coaches awarded player of the match to Hutchinson after a deadly display in finishing, while Barkers’ coaches singled out scrum-half Lottie Dadds as their player of the day.
