Hornigold hat-trick sends Banwell through

BANWELL Under-15s travelled to first division Burnham in the cup and came away 6-0 victors.

After initial home pressure, Banwell settled their game, the inspirational Harry Hornigold collected a first half hat-trick with great link up play with Dale Waite, Jordan Townsend and Joe Gomm.

The start of the second half saw Burnham trying trying to get back into the match, but the backline of Ben Ja-min, Andy Izzard, Connor Davidson and Dan Butler were outstanding as was keeper Jack Andrews, who made some fantastic saves to keep the home attackers at bay.

Mbali Hanyana, George Harris and Lewis Brake were winning the midfield battles along with Izzy Boulton and Jordan Graham. Hornigold grabbed his fourth and fifth sandwiched by a Butler penalty after Gomm was brought down.

Harry Hornigold was voted Royal Mail man of the match.

WESTON Town Under-13s secured an impressive 7-0 away win at Axbridge to keep up the chase for top spot.

A searching ball from midfield saw Josh Adams race through and slot the ball past the advancing keeper to open the scoring. Town had several chances to increase their lead before another long-range effort from Jack Hockey found the the net.

Axbridge rarely threatened the Town goal, thanks to impressive defensive performances from Bradley Cousins and Jordan Hodge and went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Town were soon rewarded with a strike from Killian Vick. Jamie Ramplin was next on the score sheet with a powerful drive, closely followed by a composed finish from Dan Berry.

Berry then added his second with a fantastic bicycle kick into the roof of the net. The scoring was completed when Vick grabbed his second late on from close range.

The Weston Super Frames man of the match was awarded to Jack Hockey and a big well done also to Town’s manager Nigel on passing his level 1 coaching badge.

INJURY-HIT Kewstoke Under-14s secured a late 4-0 win over Milton Nomads.

Without Tom Kenyon and Rhys Spurling, Kewstoke nearly took the lead when Jacob D’Arcy’s shot hit the bar.

Just before half-time, excellent midfield work from Jack Wadley, Matt Knight, Josh Burton and Macaulay Smith set up James Pounsbury for the first goal.

The second half saw Kewstoke on the attack with quick goals from Craig Cragg and Jake Sprague. Nomads fought back putting pressure on Kewstoke’s defence, but great play from Josh Kay, Blake Littlewood, Ethan Aylott and keeper Matt Saunders kept them at bay.

More chances came Kewstoke’s way, with Jack West’s shot hitting the bar and a perfect cross from Kay finding the head of Cragg for Kewstoke’s fourth goal.

Ridgeway Pine’s man of the match award went to Josh Kay.

The Under-10s A team got off to a promising start against Burnham with some smooth passing play between the back two of Charlie Sweeting and George Creech and Kewstoke’s midfield players Joel Crinson, Jake Manville and Kieran Hill. Kewstoke took the lead with a goal from Geneshius Teboh.

After the break, keeper Sam Carter was rarely challenged. Mikey Nicholls, Joel Crinson and Mateo Turvey were in good form at the back. Captain Jake Manville was rewarded for his efforts to score the next two goals. With just minutes remaining, Berrow Boys were rewarded with a consolation goal.

Weston and Worle Advertiser man of the match was awarded to Joel Crinson.

The Under-10s B team started with great intent and with just five minutes played, Kewstoke were 3-0 up with striker Sam Ford scoring all three. Ashley Hastewell had a great game on the wing and was rewarded for his efforts with two goals making it 5-0.

Goalkeeper Daniel Layden commanded his area well and was unfortunate not to keep a clean sheet, especially when Thomas Perry, Evan Brunsden and Tim Page were in good form. Nevertheless Berrow got a goal after some good build up play.

Adam Bungay made some great runs on the wing with great support from Szymon Swierczyna and Tim Page. Brunsden was unlucky not to score, but a sixth goal was scored by Ryan Hill.

Man of the match went to Jake Dunn.

The Under-11s took the lead against Weston Town when Jack Annely scored two minutes before half-time.

The second half saw Kewstoke on the back foot as Weston marched through the midfield only to have their attack thwarted by the defence of Mitch Chadwick, Adam Rogerson and Tyler Beck.

Keeper Josh Harrison stopped two fine strikes, but could not stop a shot that sent the match into extra time.

Stevie Baker made a fine run to set up Sam Chatwood, but his shot was put out for a corner. Annely’s flag kick was converted by James Jones. The final play of extra time saw Baker pass to Chatwood, whose stunning pass to Johnny Hale was netted to give Kewstoke a 3-1 win.

Kewstoke man of the match was Stevie Baker.

The Under-15s progressed to the last eight of the League Cup with a well deserved 7-1 win against Worle Juniors.

Kewstoke won the early exchanges in midfield with Jake Groves, Ben Harris, James Hodgkinson, Syd Camper and Lawrence Mayer all working hard. Kewstoke opened the scoring when Groves finished well. Ryan Hill followed this up to make it 2-0.

The back four of Josh Selwyn, Jordan Sole, Connor Andrew and Lewis Clamp all put in assured performances to restrict Worle’s chances.

In a tactical switch before half-time, Billy Judd and Michael Deane came on and both continued the good work.

In a feisty second half, Syd Camper added a third to calm any Kewstoke nerves. Shortly after, Lawrence Mayer scored with an excellent shot from outside the box. Billy Judd then added two goals within minutes of each other to take the score to six.

At the other end, Luke Bryant pulled off a couple of good saves to deny Worle, but was beaten when Worle pulled a goal back. Shortly before the final whistle, Sole scored a header to take the score to seven.

SB Fencing man of the match was awarded to Ben Harris.

CRUSADERS Under-11s were in quarter-final cup action this week against Isle of Wedmore and produced a solid all-round team performance to progress into the semi-finals.

Wedmore came out the blocks and scored a goal in the first attack of the game. Crusaders remained patient and after some excellent passing, Jones smashed in a 25 yard effort to make it 1-1. The game now was being controlled by the midfield of Bonner, Havard, Jones and Cox, with Denyer and Thomas working hard up front.

The back four of Rac, Thomas-Barker, Tilsley and Ellis-Smith kept things tight at the back, with keeper Filby untroubled.

Crusaders took the lead when Thomas beat the advancing keeper, but Wedmore equalised just before the break.

Changes at half-time saw Thomas-Barker, Williams and Ellis-Smith back in midfield and Redding and Buxton in the back four. Crusaders upped the tempo and Thomas beat four players before to restore Crusaders’ lead.

Five minutes later, Owen Denyer made it 4-2 when put through by Cox and only some fine goalkeeping by the home team kept the final score at 4-2.

Special mention to the Wedmore team, who played with spirit. Crusader’s man of the match was Ryan Thomas.

With four key players missing from Crusaders Under-15s line-up, it was always going to be a difficult game against a well-organised Backwell side.

The game started brightly with Crusaders having two chances saved, but it was Backwell that broke the deadlock and never looked back.

Tom Light, Callum Wilson, Mike Hosey and Jack Bridgman had to contend with the long ball over the top and Luke Loveridge stood little chance. James Lawrence worked hard, but was thwarted when a fine strike hit the crossbar.

Mike Dancer, Ryan Elkins, Jordan Bolitho, Joe Godfrey and Kieren White were given no time on the ball as Backwell closed down fast.

Will Sneddon Coombes stepped up an age group to offer respite in the second half, but Backwell continued to put the goals away. Crusaders eventually scored when Bolithos’ corner kick resulted in Godfrey heading home and to add insult to injury, Backwell’s final chance of the game deflected in off one of the defenders to make it 6-1 to Backwell.

Formula 1st man of the match went to Mike Dancer.

PRIORY Under-18s played Forest Green Rovers in a cup match.

Priory entered the third round cup game as underdogs and fought valiantly. The Priory defence was under pressure from the start, but kept out attacks from Forest.

Despite some crucial saves by goalkeeper Ben Pratt, Forest Green managed to create a firm lead in the first half.

After half-time, Priory came out with renewed focus and determination creating more goal scoring opportunities. The game ended with a score of 7-0 to Forest Green.

The players should be proud that they played with pride and never gave up. Man of the match was Alex Maclean.

Priory Under-16s returned to league action against a strong and organised Gordano Valley Giants.

The first half saw Priory nearly take the lead when debutant Ross Goldstone’s shot struck the bar, but the home side took the lead after a rare mistake from Priory keeper Callum Neate.

This only spurred Priory into life and the equaliser came after a good move from Ashley Smith, Kyle Smith and Joe Reames, whose cross was met by Ben Macaulay to fire home.

After the break, Angelo Fagnani fed the ball to profootballfives.co.uk man of the match Jack Hodrien, who fired Priory in front. Hodrien got his second and Priory’s third soon after.

The home team started a fightback, putting pressure on Ross Wood, Chris Bridges and John Hunt in defence and got a goal back direct from a free kick. Priory brought on Jo Cox, Rhys Winstone and Marcus Dudd to try to shore things up, but Gordano equalised with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Some outstanding keeping from Neate kept the home team out and after some tactical changes, Hodrien scored his hat-trick to ensure that Priory took all three points

HUTTON Under-12s travelled to Portishead United and won 5-1.

Hutton started brightly with new signing Tom Miller starting just behind the front two of Tom Hayes and Sam Smith.

The midfield of Fraser Ham, Billy Miller and Lewis McLean moved the ball round well, while at the back, Rhys Davies, Kyle Sampson, Marios Michael and Liam Birch looked solid and keeper Charlie Walford had a good game.

Hutton took the lead after a 25-yard free kick by Michael, soon followed by a goal from Miller. McLean made some neat runs down the right and was unlucky not to score.

Ham found space and his shot found the net from just outside the box and then Miller scored his second after a tap-in.

After the break, Hutton made four changes, bringing on Ben Grice, Eli Butt, Morgan Bacon and Joe Taylor. Miller found space just outside the box and his neat lob over the Portishead keeper found the net. Portishead scored a late consolation goal.

The Grand Pier man of the match went to Rhys Davies.
