Huge turnout for Weston Handicap Tournament

Seventy-eight players turned out for the eighth running of the Weston Handicap Tournament.

Last week saw the eighth running of the popular Weston Handicap Tournament, with 78 players over six hours across the three tournaments, it was another feast of local badminton.

The ladies saw eight pairs in one box progressing to a main and plate knockout stages. The plate winners were Jane Watson and Pai with Melissa Poole and Hannah Richards runners-up.

The main event saw runners-up Alice Lamb and Bridget Jones with overall winners being Louise King and Evie Carrol.

The men’s event was equally as competitive - two boxes with progression to the knockout stages. The plate saw Alex Smith and Billy Mallet victorious over runners-up Rohan Weekes and James Sole.

The main event winners were Uphill’s Tom Higgins and Harrison Whitehouse, winning the final 21-15 over Raymond Tse and Andrew Stewart.

The mixed event saw a bumper entry of 20 pairs across four boxes. The plate final was a cracker, Emily Page Symonds and Sam Clough defeating Melissa Poole and Sam Hedges 21-20.

The main final was of the highest quality with Kelly Fairey and Alex Lam overcoming Evie Carrol and Alex Smith 21-17 to take the title.

Big thanks go to all 78 players who made the event such a successful day. Event number nine will be coming in September.
