FOLLOWING a hard fought 2-1 win against Somerset Gryphons A the week before, Weston 2nds travelled to Chew Valley to play Imperial.
Weston’s relatively young team were caught on the counter attack early on and Imperial scored to make it 1-0. Weston continued to make chances and from one of these Stu Lanham’s shot was kicked off the line and the umpire awarded a penalty flick, converted by Nathan.
Jack Pitt all and Rob Huish both gave good performances, but shortly before half-time Imperial showed their composure in the D to make it 2-1.
After the break, Weston switched off and found themselves 4-1 down when Imperial scored twice. Weston kept their heads up and after some good defending by Mount and Etchells, they were rewarded with a number of short corners.
From one of these, the ball broke loose and Hind scored. From another short corner, Hind netted to make it 4-3. Ceri Williams then crashed the ball into the top of the net with a reverse stick shot from an acute angle to equalise.
Imperial were stunned by this come back and pushed forward to try and win the game. Weston held out and from a Nathan inspired counter attack, Hind found space in the D to score his hat-trick and win the game.
Butcombe man of the match was Jack Pitt.
