Star of the show at Wedmore indoor bowls finals day was Maureen Hordle, who played with a broken arm.
WEDMORE’S indoor season came to fruition with finals weekend for seven club competitions, with 11 different winners.
The results were – ladies’ four-wood singles: Trish Newell; ladies’ pairs: Mary Ronald and Monica Green; men’s four-wood singles, also open four-wood singles: Eddie Payne; men’s pairs: Ron Barron and Roy Hunt; mixed pairs: Mary Stansfield and Peter Smith; mixed triples: Rod Bull, Julie Collins and John Arthurs.
The star of the show was surely Maureen Hordle. A regular finalist, Maureen made it to three finals this year four-wood singles, pairs and mixed triples. Unfortunately, she had a fall and broke her right arm.
Rather than give up, Maureen practised with her left hand the week before finals. Many club members paid tribute to Maureen’s courageous performance and she had her own round of applause. “I didn’t want to let people down”, she said.
