CHILDREN at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre have been learning tennis for the first time, thanks to resident LTA tennis coach Stephen Pearce.
Stephen said: “The children have been a delight to coach, I gain a tremendous amount of gratification from seeing their smiling faces.”
Stephen has introduced tennis to over 100 students since April 2010 from age four upwards. Students are taught the importance of agility, balance, co-ordination and speed through fun games and activities.
Younger players use soft foam tennis balls, while older players hit with low compression hard balls which helps to speed up the learning process and makes sure every child feels successful.
During the winter months, the sports hall is invaluable, it protects the students from the wind and rain and means they can learn in a safe and secure environment.
If your child would like to learn tennis they can try a session on a Tuesday or Wednesday after school for free.
