A junior tournament was held at Weston Tennis Club, which was well attended.

WESTON Tennis Club held a junior tournament which was well attended by members and their families.

The Under-10s event was keenly contested in a round-robin format. The winner was Shayan Mafi, who showed his power throughout all the matches. The runner-up was Joshua Weall, who pushed hard all the way, narrowly going down in straight sets.

A special mention for Freddie Simmonds, who played his part by showing a wide range of excellent shots in coming third.

The Under-16s event followed with 12 players taking part on a round-robin basis in two boxes of six.

The eventual winner was Rory Payton, who beat a determined Andrew Sinclair in the final one-set shoot-out 6-3. A special mention must be made of Phoebe Payton, who finished third playing some excellent tennis.

The tournament was organised by club coach, Jamie Allen, who said that the standard of play throughout the day was impressive and was matched by the fighting spirit of the competitors.

Weston Tennis Club, based in Neva Road, caters for all ages and abilities and welcomes everyone from complete beginners to those seeking to play competitive tennis.
