St Marks School in Worle was the venue for Weston Karate Club's latest combination of Brown and Black belt course and grading.

September is always the club's smallest grading of the year. However, not only did they have a good turnout, they were again pleased by level of the skill, effort and attitude shown by the majority of students.

Training started at 9.45am and the day finished at 4.30pm. Gradings can be a testing time for an individuals nerves as they have to demonstrate their knowledge and aptitude in Karate to enable them to attain their next belt.

The day started with an hours pre-grading training, in which children and adults alike are put through a brief refresher on what they need to know for their grading.

As always, we get a few students who seem to excel on the day. On this occasion extra congratulations go out to Jake Wood and Neil Bardle, these two students were singled out for their marked improvement and effort on the day.

Saturday was also a special day for two of our senior students, Devon Troskie and Pete Grimes. At a separate grading following a long and hard Brown and Black belt course, they were successful in achieving the grade of 1st Dan (Black Belt).

Karate is an excellent self-disciplined activity for anyone to learn self defence skills, it is especially beneficial for children lacking in confidence and co-ordination. Many of our student's parents have applauded the almost instantly visible improvements in their children.

Next year the club will be celebrating its 25th year.

New classes for children from the age of seven and adults are starting now on Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesday. Also if you have trained in martial arts previously and would like to get back into training, the club offers support to help you back.
