Cheddar Valley Rifle Club have completed their summer programme of events.

CHEDDAR Valley Rifle Club have completed their summer programme of events with the following results

Somerset Individual League (10 round of 10 shots at 25 yards indoors), the best placed Cheddar members were Tom Paisey and Barbara Griffin, second and third respectively in Division 3.

Ulster Counties Leagues (at 50m and 100 yards) saw Keith Thickett win Division 2 at 50m and Trevor Paisey finishing third at 100 yards.

At the Somerset County Open meeting (50m and 100 yards), Thickett was the leading county competitor, finishing second in top Class A.

In the National Championship at Bisley, the Cheddar team of Thickett, Mike Griffin, Ruth Bell, Dave Oatley, Alex Thwaite and Simon Ellis represented Somerset in the Astor Cup final. Thickett was also selected for the Somerset team in both inter-county matches.

The Major Hutchinson Memorial shoot (50m and 100 yards) was held on the Long Ashton range last month. Six member competed, Thickett was second in the top class and was the highest scoring Somerset resident. Trevor Paisey was second and Thwaite third in B Class.

Griffin won the veterans match and with Thickett, were second in the pairs. The team of Griffin, Bell, Trevor Paisey, Thwaite and Ellis won the Astor competition and will represent Somerset at Bisley again next year.

Griffin and Thickett were regular members of the Somerset county team, and also capped were Bell and Trevor Paisey.

To round off a successful season, Thickett was selected for an England team which competed in the annual match between the English Smallbore Shooting Union and the Combined Services, which the ESSU won convincingly.

The winter season is now underway with teams entered into the Somerset Leagues and cups, Bristol and District Leagues, Cups and Shoulder to Shoulder, Ulster Counties and the Dorset 3s.

In addition, members have been selected for Somerset county teams, Thickett, Griffin, Oatley, Ellis and Bell in the first team and Thwaite, Gaynor Avery and Barbara in the reserves. Barbara and Bell are also selected for the ladies.

Cheddar Valley Rifle Club is an established and fully approved .22 calibre target rifle shooting club with their own 25 yard indoor range in the village.

The club welcome new members and all equipment is provided. Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings between 7.30-11pm.
