Banwell Res 2
BANWELL Reserves took their league form into the Vardon Cup semi-final with Rangers hoping to repay for a 6-1 league thumping at the start of the season.
The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges, but unable to beat Mat Jakeman in the Rangers goal.
Banwell took the lead when Adam Abrahams latched on to a Mark Jones’ through ball as he outpaced his marker before shooting low and hard to beat Jakeman. On 25 minutes a neat move involving several players allowed Abrahams to double the lead for Banwell.
Purkis, Mitchell, Pennington, Perrett and McLoud were strong at the back dealing with anything Rangers threw at them. Tommy Owen and Mark Jones were busy in the centre of the pitch breaking up Rangers’ neat play.
Rangers were given a fighting chance when a Shane Quick free kick beat Purkis from 20 yards.
Waymouth Signs man of the match for Banwell was Scott McLoud.
For Worle, Wilson and Jakeman were excellent and Brinson returned to form with an outstanding display. However, the Curry Garden man of the match went to Jake Hannam.
