Kewstoke’s Ethan Nairne will fight for Great Britain at the European Championships in Poland later this month.
The 16-year-old has climbed the under-66kg rankings over the last 12 months to become GB's number one cadet.
And he is now hoping to follow in the footsteps of elder sister Lele, a world-ranked European medalist.
Ranked number three at the start of the year, Nairne missed out on trips with the England squad, but worked hard to earn a place at the Scottish Championships.
And after beating the UK number one, he competed at the Northern Ireland Championships, where he won gold after beating his main rival for a second time.
He has extended his points gap at the top of the rankings and coach Pete Douglas said: "Ethan's journey has not been an easy one as the u66kg category is the most brutal and competitive of the judo weights to compete in.
"He is the most professional young fighter it has been my pleasure to train and worth with. Ethan deserves this selection as he always goes that extra mile and has developed the best work and training ethics I've ever seen.
"We have our fingers crossed that he will also be selected for the Youth Olympics in Baku this July."
