THREE boxers from Steve Yourath's stable based in Churchill Road, Weston, were in action last weekend at the Grundy Leisure Centre, Cheshunt, at Alan Mortlock's prize ring IBA show.First up was Gabba Gilbertson from Worle who faced Jimmy Perin (Enfield). Gabba edged the first round in a toe to toe battle. In the second round, a clash of heads closed Gabba's left eye. He was eventually stopped 20 second from the end of the third round.Wayne Kennedy (Weston/ Plymouth) challenged Richie-E (Islington) for his North London area belt over six rounds, but got stopped a minute into the second round with a right hook to the temple, sending Kennedy to the canvas, forcing the referee to halt the bout. The last bout of the evening was between heavyweight Sheridan Davey (Weston/Plymouth) and local hero Gary Childs (Cheshunt) in a non-title six-round bout.Childs went out to impress and was the aggressor in the early stages of the first round, but Davey covered most of Child's work. As Child's workrate dropped, Davey fired a solid jab through Childs' guard, knocking his head back. Davey kept up the pressure and landed a perfect left hook, followed by a short right hook, knocking Childs flat on his face. This was Davey's fourth knockout in his last four bouts. There will be boxing show in Weston on June 12.
